Raise your hand if you’ve ever been guilty of hopping onto your IG stories and starting with, “hey GUYS!” (I feel ya, friend – ME TOO!)
For Social Media Day 2019, I had the opportunity to speak about Building an Influence @smdaytampabay (SO FUN), and a major point I stressed was that: When you’re talking to everyone, you’re speaking to no one. Read that again.
This takeaway stems from John Lee Dumas who introduced the idea of creating a “Business Avatar” (hence the play on words for “audience avatar”) where instead of focusing on reaching + including EVERYONE in your messaging, you focus on targeting a specific PERSON (an avatar) that would benefit most from the value you have to offer.
With that being said, and with being guilty of addressing my ENTIRE audience as a whole on social platforms, I spent time identifying my own audience avatar. Meet, Sophie!
Here are some of the questions I answered when dreaming her up:
1️⃣ Name, age, gender, level of education, children, pets, religion (if applicable)
2️⃣ Current job (income) vs. desired job (income)
3️⃣ Personality traits (Enneagram, Myers Briggs)
4️⃣ Favorite magazines, podcasts, books
5️⃣ Favorite place(s) to hang on social media
6️⃣ What they’re good at / what they feel is missing from their life
7️⃣ Biggest fears that stand between them and their goals
8️⃣ What they’re searching for on Google
9️⃣ What their support system is like
🔟 Pain points & positive/negative trigger words
