When I first started writing captions for IG, they consisted of either: a good Pinterest quote, a reflection of what I did that day, or something I was looking forward to in the future. Can you relate?
Good news is: at least we’re trying to be intentional and put our hearts into our work (lol).
Bad news is: They didn’t capture my audience avatar’s attention or position me as someone with value to share.
Best news is: We can improve this!
The game changer for me was incorporating these 4 components into each of my captions:
You have about 3 seconds to capture your audience’s attention when they see your post
Your headline will make or break whether you bore them or intrigue them in those 3 seconds, so you need to start out with something alluring that encourages them to slow their scroll and pay attention to what you have to say.
This is where you fully convinced them to continue reading. It can be something funny, relatable, or even controversial, but it needs to really hook them into wanting to consume your content.
This is where you deliver the value you showed up to offer. For example, my breakdown of these 4 components is the BODY of this post. It’s my fulfillment of the promise I gave you in my headline.
Now that your audience has fully consumed your content, it’s time to encourage them to take action! Reverse engineer your CTA’s by first considering what you WANT them to do, then considering what they NEED to do to satisfy that “want.”
