Today I wanted to chat about working with brands and give you a few tips on how to get noticed by them through Instagram. Instagram has been a major way that such individuals have been able to monetize and now I’m going to teach you how YOU can do the same!
1. Instagram Stories = Imperative
When Instagram Stories rolled out last year after Facebook took over, the world was mind blown. It became the go to “real-time” tool that everyone started using and brands took notice. I’ve spoken to over fifteen brands about Instagram Stories and why they like it so much and the typical response is that it really gives them an inside look into who a person is. It’s a better way to see if an individual fits what their brand is looking for. Stories are my jam (if you know, you know *cue dorky smile*) and sometimes I get more inquiries about me posting on my Story than my feed. Crazy right?! So, with all that being said, use them to showcase who you are (inside + out) because you never know what brand may be watching and want to work with you next!
2. Share the Love
A lot of people often believe that brands you may want to really work with never see what you do on Instagram so they don’t event try to get noticed. You’d be surprised though. Most of these companies actually higher people specifically to monitor Instagram and see who is talking about them online. This can lead to reposts, gifted packages in thanks, collaborations, etc. For example, not long ago I shared a product that I loved on my Insta Stories and after a couple times of doing that, the brand Dm’d me and asked for my address to send me a thank you gift for sharing the love. It was full of more products for me to try. No requirements to post or anything, just a simple thank you. So when you find a product or clothing piece you really like, share the love. Use the brand’s hashtags, tag them, make a story about them, send them an email about how much you love what you got. You never know what can come out of sharing the love, so don’t grow weary in doing so!
3. Don’t be a Cookie Cutter
To put it quite frankly (and I mean it with a whole lot of love), if a brand wanted to work with a professional model or a celebrity, then they would. The reason that influencer marketing is becoming so prominent isn’t because there is a lack of famous people out there to put in front of a camera. It’s because there is a lack of consumer trust in producers. The whole point of influencer marketing is to utilize real, genuine, honest people to give feedback to a group of interested individuals and encourage them to buy or check out a particular brand. There is enough “perfection” in Hollywood, so if you’re trying to fit into that “image” and wondering why brands aren’t hollering (ha) at you, take a step back and consider whether or not you’re being uniquely, you. Being unapologetically yourself will always resonate more than being a cookie cutter of someone else.
